Considering a Career as a Freelance Copywriter? Here are 7 Reasons Why You Should

Have you been seeing all those posts from freelance copywriters all over Instagram talking about how a career in copywriting is the ticket to freedom and financial independence?

Yeah, you know the ones.

If you’re wondering if they’re legit, I’ll let you in on a little secret. THEY ARE.

It’s true. All of it.

Copywriting is one of those unique careers where you can make comfortable living from anywhere you can get an internet connection, and without a college degree. Seriously. A few copywriting courses will have you on your way in no time.

7 Reasons Why You Should Consider a Career in Copywriting

If you’re wondering if you should take the leap and ditch your draining 9-5 to become a copywriter, I’m going to give you 7 reasons why you totally should.

7 Reasons Why You Should Consider a Career in Copywriting

1. Location Independence

Want to visit your Mom for the weekend?

Feel like working from the beach?

Want to go on a last-minute trip to the city?

When you’re a freelance copywriter, you can do that! Because you’re not chained to a specific location or to an office. You can work from anywhere you can get wifi.

2. Time Independence

Not only does a freelance copywriting career give you the freedom to work WHEREVER you want, you can work WHENEVER you want, too.

Freelancing means that you have control over your own schedule. That means no more submitting for a PTO request––and no more getting it denied.

When you’re a freelancer, your time belongs to you. And that means your LIFE belongs to you.

3. Financial Control

What’s just as good as time and location independence?

Not having a cap on your earnings.

Freelancing isn’t like a fulltime job where you’re limited to the amount of money you bring home. You can pick up more clients or raise your prices if you need to give yourself a “raise.”

But, keep in mind that because you’re a freelancer, that means you DON’T always have consistent income. You might need to work more one month than another if you know you’re going to have extra expenses.

4. You’re the Boss of You

Never want to wear “slacks” ever again? You don’t have to!

Want to start your days at 11am? You got it.

Want to crank the music while you’re working? DO IT.

Want to turn your freelance business into a full-fledged copywriting agency?

As a freelancer, you make all the decisions in your business. That means that everything is up to you––from the day-to-day decisions to your overall success.

5. You Get to Use Both Sides of Your Brain

If you’re both a creative and analytical thinker, you’ll thrive as a copywriter.

Copywriting requires you to think with both sides of your brain to get a message across to your audience in a way that appeals to emotion and psychology.

6. You Get to Change Lives

One of the best things about being a copywriter is that what you do has a direct impact on the success of your clients.

Your words could be the difference between a launch that’s a complete flop or one that breaks records. You could, quite literally, help make someone’s dreams come true.

7. Versatility, Baby!

Copywriting is an extremely versatile career. Depending on if you decide to work in a specific niche or not, you could be learning (and writing!) about different topics every day.

One day, you could become an expert in dog supplements, and the next you could be writing about the Internet of Things.

And if you find you like one topic over another, you can choose to work for more clients in that niche.

Hey, it’s up to you!
